Senate Reviews Bill to Declare Pampanga as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines



Food - A bill to officially declare Pampanga as the "Culinary Capital of the Philippines" has reached the Senate plenary, where it has now been formally sponsored. This legislation aims to recognize Pampanga’s rich culinary heritage and its significant contributions to Filipino cuisine.

Senator Mark Villar has sponsored Senate Bill 2797 to declare Pampanga the "Culinary Capital of the Philippines," recognizing its significant contributions to Filipino cuisine. Villar highlighted that this recognition will boost local pride, tourism, and economic growth, while respecting the diverse culinary traditions of other regions.

Pampanga-born Senator Lito Lapid co-sponsored the bill, highlighting notable chefs from the province, like Nora and Sandy Daza, Atsing Lillian Borromeo, and Claude Tayag. He also noted famous Pampanga-born restaurants, including Café Adriatico, Abe Restaurant, Cabalen, and Pampanga’s Best.

"Ang turismo po ng Pampanga ay nakasalalay sa aming mga tao: sa aming mainit na pagtanggap sa mga turista at sa aming masasarap na putahe. Ang aming hospitality at culinary industry po ang aming pangunahing bentaha sa turismo. Kaya naman po buong puso po kaming humihingi ng tulong sa atin Senado na ibigay sa lalawigan ng Pampanga ang bansag na Culinary Capital ng Pilipinas," he added.
