The Philippine Senate is being urged to pass a bill that would grant a monthly pension of ₱1,000 to all senior citizens, aiming to provide financial support to the elderly population.
Currently, under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, only indigent senior citizens receive a ₱1,000 monthly pension. The proposed legislation seeks to extend this benefit to all senior citizens, regardless of their economic status.
The bill has already been approved by the House of Representatives and is now pending in the Senate. Lawmakers are urging the Senate to act on the bill before the 19th Congress concludes in June 2025.
The proposed pension aims to provide financial assistance to senior citizens, many of whom face economic challenges in their later years. By extending the pension to all senior citizens, the bill seeks to ensure that no elderly Filipino is left behind, regardless of their economic status.
If enacted, the legislation would amend the current law to provide a universal social pension to all senior citizens, enhancing their financial security and well-being.
