DICT, DOST warn public vs AI chatbots |
Philippines – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) have issued a joint advisory cautioning the public about the potential risks associated with the use of AI-powered chatbots. They emphasize the importance of safeguarding personal information and being aware of the limitations and dangers these technologies may present.
Key Recommendations:
Protect Personal Information: Avoid sharing sensitive data such as passwords, financial details, or personal identifiers with AI chatbots. These platforms are not designed to securely handle confidential information and may inadvertently store or misuse it.
Be Cautious with Sensitive Topics: Refrain from discussing medical, financial, or other sensitive subjects with chatbots, as they are not equipped to provide professional advice and may compromise your privacy.
Stay Vigilant Against Misinformation: AI chatbots can sometimes generate inaccurate or misleading information. Always cross-verify responses with trusted sources before making decisions based on chatbot interactions.
Understand the Technology's Limitations: Recognize that while AI chatbots can simulate human-like conversations, they lack genuine understanding and may produce inappropriate or harmful content. Use them as supplementary tools rather than primary sources of information.
